Welcome! I am a Literacy Consultant and Instructional Coach. My primary area of focus is with adolescents. Prior to becoming a consultant, I taught high school English for seven years and have been an Instructional Coach for nine years. As a Literacy Specialist and Coach, I work with teachers to improve their instruction, with a focus on reading and writing in all content areas. I implement job-embedded professional development to impact student learning. I also have a special interest in new literacies (web3.0, 21st Century learners) and the emerging field of Critical Literacy.
I am a graduate of Georgia Southern University (B.S.Ed.) and Cambridge College (M.Ed.). In 2003, I received National Board Certification in Adolescent and Young Adulthood English Language Arts. In 2013, I renewed my National Board Certification. I have Advanced Placement Literature and Composition training, International Baccalaureate training and am a Teacher Consultant for National Writing Project.
Being a teacher is my calling. Some people have a job, even one which they love, but it is not their calling. I truly feel that teaching is what I am meant to do. I enjoy working with young people and want to share my love of learning with them and those who teach them. As an educator, I can have a positive impact on society and make a difference in the world. This is my contribution to society. I feel everyone needs to give of himself or herself – I am just lucky enough to have an opportunity to do that daily.
